Event management services, timing, and results is being provided by SEOTR Events.

The “Gatewood Trail 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk'' fundraiser presented by the University of Rio Grande, on the Gatewood Trail System located on campus grounds, is solely for the purpose of raising money to support Rio’s Annual “Special Sports Skills Track Invitational Meet'' held in April for special needs children and young adults.  Last year we registered 400 special needs athletes from which 343 participated from19 different organizations who provide services to the Special Needs populations in ten Ohio counties plus one organization from West Virginia.

We utilize 125 local community volunteers to help with the track meet event.  A few local civic & high school groups also provide help and services.  We provide free of charge each special needs athlete the following accommodations to participate in the Track Meet:

  • No entry fee charged

  • Lunch

  • T-shirt

  • 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th place medals for each event

  • Only 4 participants in each event

  • Award ceremonies after each event with photo and interview opportunities

To witness smiles, jubilation, excitement, sense of accomplishment and the true spirit of sport competition in these gifted athletes is truly an uplifting and beautiful sight to behold.   Help us make lifetime memories for these special athletes.

Thank you!
